Sierra Leone strengthens bilateral ties with Nigeria

The Nigerian High Commissioner designate to the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Henry John Omaku, on Friday 19th February, 2021, received his Agreement presented to him by Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner, Dr. Solomon Gembeh, at the High Commmission’s Premises, located on Plot 308, Diplomatic Drive, Abuja, Nigeria. Presenting the Agreement High Commissioner Dr. Solomon  Gembeh recalled the strong ties between Nigeria and Sierra Leone from pre-colonial era, through to the struggles for independence. The relationship between the two countries, High Commissioner  Gembeh pointed out, is built on the platform of academic, diplomatic and cultural ties, which paved the way for Nigeria to help  to restore peace and democracy in Sierra Leone.

High Commissioner Dr. Gembeh assured the Nigerian High Commissioner designate to Sierra Leone of his country’s friendly disposition towards the government and people of Nigeria. He maintained that Sierra Leone is a brotherly nation, which will provide the necessary platform for him to perform his diplomatic assignments without any impediment. 

Receiving the Agrément, the High Commissioner designate, Henry John Omaku, thanked High Commissioner Dr. Gembeh for the efforts asserted through the Sierra Leone Ministry of Foreign Affairs to make the agrement available within a very short time. He opined that with the human population of Sierra Leone and the endowment in natural resources, the country is supposed to be one of the richest, but he recognised that the sad experience it went through means that it would take the country a long time to recover from the tragedies of the war.

The High Commissioner also emphasised that he is filled with pride, seeing the pace at which Sierra Leone is fast progressing, and expressed strong optimism that the country will soon come from behind to take its rightful position on the continent of Africa. High Commissioner Henry John Omaku promised to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, adding that he will maintain strong collaboration in working together to deliver on the development objectives of both nations within the available confines of diplomatic protocols.
