Indigo Center for Justice Monitors Peninsula Schools

By Mackie M. Jalloh

In December 2020, Indigo Center for Justice conducted and carried out physical head counts of school children and teachers across ten Government and Government assisted schools in twelve communities in the Western Rural District. This was done in a bid to verify the correctness of school enrollment data submitted to the Ministry of Education, for children to benefit under the free and Quality Education Program.

This is to support accountability and enhance transparency in the management of school enrollment data.

A policy Literacy session for teachers was also conducted in January 2021. A condition under which the free education is provided was also brought to the fore. Proper buildings, adequate salary for teachers, promotion of long serving teachers and inspection of schools, all formed part of the challenges the FQE is faced with.

A very interactive and enlightening session, which proved beneficial to all.
