New Direction brings Electricity to Kailahun
Jojoima Town, Kailahun District, Eastern Sierra Leone,
On Saturday June 5,2021, Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, commissioned the mini grid at Jojoima, Malema chiefdom, Kailahun district, Eastern Sierra Leone, where he spoke about plans to electrify neighbouring Baiwala.
In his welcome address, Paramount Chief of Malema Chiefdom, PC Lamin Pamley Ngevao, praised the New Direction Government and the service and delivery focused nature of President Bio. He expressed the unequivocal gratitude of the people to the SLPP government, adding that Malema chiefdom would forever remain indebted to President Bio and his government. He said he was confident that with President Bio in power, his chiefdom stands a great chance of enjoying some remarkable transformation.
While commissioning the mini grid, Alhaji Kanja Sesay said that Malema in general and Jojoima in particular, were always close to the heart of the President, stressing that the strategic importance of the chiefdom was something that was not lost on President Bio, adding that he was under a special instruction not to ever forget Malema, and that the chiefdom deserved what had been given to them thus far, while also assuring them of plenty in store.
He spoke about a variety of social services that the government was undertaking in the area, including an ultramodern hospital, which is under construction and some other projects that are critical to the development of the area and the enhancement of its human capital potentials.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay informed the people about the West Africa Power Pool/CLSG project, which, he said, was at a considerably advanced stage, noting that several towns in Pujehun, Kenema, Kono, Tonkolili, Koinadugu and Karena districts were going to benefit from the regional power.
Minister Sesay concluded by urging the people to own the project, and in the spirit of self-help, erect poles for street lights. He assured them of conscious efforts at making the tariff reasonable and affordable.
Member of Parliament for Constituency 006, Hon. Mohamed Kanneh, said he was thankful to God for giving him and his people the wisdom to vote for President Bio. He commended the Minister of Energy for fulfilling his promise of electrifying Jojoima and asked that the Minister to convey to the President the appreciation of his people and the assurances of their support for him at the 2023 polls.
PowerGen Customer Engagement Manager, Mohamed Jalloh, praised the partnership that the government had forged with his company. He spoke about PowerGen’s funding partners like Off Grid Power. Mr.Jalloh praised stakeholders and youths in the chiefdom for the safe working environment and the warm reception accorded his engineers during the implementation process. He assured of quality, sustainability and affordability.
The program was chaired by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Emmanuel Junisa, and was graced by several stakeholders like the Chairman for Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Hon.Kekura Vandi.
